Flannel blankets are made of certain special materials, usually fine polyester or other synthetic fibers. These fibers are soft, fluffy, and relatively light, making them suitable for use on beds or sofas. Due to the structure of this material, flannel blankets may suffer from some undesirable conditions if they are not properly dried after washing, such as shrinkage, deformation, fading, and even pilling on the surface.
Air drying is the most common drying method. After washing a flannel blanket, it is best to avoid using a high-temperature dryer directly, as this may damage the fibers of the blanket, causing it to lose its original softness and affect its appearance and feel. Sun drying is a relatively gentle and natural method. Spread the flannel blanket in a well-ventilated area and avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight, so that the blanket can maintain its color and texture. When drying naturally in the sun, the fibers of the blanket can be properly expanded and restored, helping to maintain its fluffiness and comfort.
Direct exposure to strong sunlight also has its potential risks. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause flannel blankets to fade, especially for dark or brightly colored blankets, where UV rays may accelerate the degradation of color. Therefore, it is best to hang the blanket in the shade or in the shade to avoid excessive fading of the color. When the sun is too strong, the material of some flannel blankets may be damaged to a certain extent, resulting in brittle fibers or fuzzy surfaces.
If it is not possible to dry the flannel blanket outdoors in the sun, another option is to place the flannel blanket in a well-ventilated area indoors to dry naturally. In this case, using a fan or air purifier can speed up the air circulation and help the blanket dry as quickly as possible. Air drying is gentler than high-temperature drying, which helps to maintain the original softness and comfort of the blanket.
If there is no sun or the weather is humid, using a drying device such as a dryer is another option. Many modern dryers offer a gentle low-temperature setting, which can prevent the blanket from being damaged by high-temperature drying. When using a dryer, make sure to set the low temperature mode and avoid high-temperature drying for a long time. You can also consider using dryer balls or towels in the dryer to help absorb excess moisture and reduce friction between the blanket and the dryer walls, reducing damage.
